Overview

Archie and the Riverdale crew are gearing up for what may well be their most ambitious reboot ever. In case you missed the news, Archie Comics and Oni Press have joined forces for a new line of books that will push the long-running franchise in strange and wonderful directions. Naturally, that includes the flagship Archie series, which will be helmed by writer Ben H. Winters (EC's Cruel Universe) and artist Fábio Moon (Daytripper).

With Comic-Con looming and the Archie relaunch drawing near, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of Archie #1. Get a closer look in the slideshow gallery below:

Archie #1 features a main cover by Stuart Immonen (All-New X-Men, New Avengers) and variant covers by Moon, Karl Kerschl (Adventures of Superman), Khary Randolph (Starborn), Travis Charest (WildC.A.T.s), Kano (Gotham Central), Dan Parent (Archie), Elsa Charretier (Love Everlasting), and Mahmud Asrar (Conan the Barbarian).

Here's the official summary for Archie #1:

For his entire life, 17-year-old Archie Andrews has had it all: adoring friends, football glory, and a natural charm that always seems to make him the center of attention. Now, through his eyes, experience the warmth and wonder of Riverdale and its near-infinite roster of residents—the popular kids, the endearing oddballs, and everyone in between—as Archie embarks on a whirlwind, all-star adventure through his town’s past, present, and future . . . beginning with a local film festival that’s about to turn everything upside down! And, at the center of it all, lies an enigmatic paradox that only Archie’s pal Jughead Jones can possibly unravel . . .

“I gotta say, writing Archie comics is pure joy... just like reading them,” said Winters in a statement. “There is something so simple and powerful about this set of friends, their loyalty to and love for one another, the way their comic misadventures reflect an exaggerated version of the traumas, dramas, and hijinks familiar to anyone who's ever been a teenager.”

Archie #1 will be released on September 2. That launch will be followed by Sabrina the Teenage Witch #1 in October and Archie in Hell #1 in November. You can preorder all three books at your local comic shop.
