Everything Coming to HBO Max in July
About
Overview
HBO Max has been heating things up this already very hot summer with the action-packed return of House of the Dragon. In July, the streaming service will also be premiering a new Big Bang Theory spin-off. The Long Walk and The Drama lead the way for movies, and subscribers can look forward to all things Shark Week. I’ve pulled out some highlights from the service’s streaming schedule below, but feel free to jump to the full list of everything being added to HBO Max each day in July. The big HBO Original for the month of July continues to be House of the Dragon Season 3, which has already kicked off with significantly more action than we saw in Season 2. Without getting too crazy with the spoilers, we’ve already seen a massive battle with some serious consequences. As the Greens duke it out with the Blacks, there’s sure to be plenty of madness (and misunderstandings) through the rest of the season. Evil Dead has been having a bit of a renaissance as new directors like Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead 2013) and Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) take stabs at the zombie franchise. A new standalone entry, Evil Dead Burn, is slated to be released in theaters next week, so this is a great chance to check out the truly classic Sam Raimi films. The original 1983 Evil Dead, in particular, has been a bit of a challenge to find on streaming, so it’s a welcome addition to the HBO Max catalog. In a world of seemingly endless Stephen King adaptations, Francis Lawrence’s take on The Long Walk immediately stood out from the pack. The concept is relatively simple: 50 boys are chosen to participate in a televised contest to, you guessed it, walk a very long way without stopping. In the grand scheme of horror, this one veers more toward psychological bleakness than creature feature jump scares. Be mindful, however; Tom Jorgenson still warns of “seriously brutal, R-rated violence” in his review. It’s 2026, and we’re getting a new Big Bang Theory spin-off. This one, however, is definitely going for a very different vibe than the beloved sitcom Young Sheldon. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will focus on comic book store owner Stuart, who has to ‘restore reality’ after accidentally breaking one of Leonard and Sheldon’s inventions. I don’t think you’ll really understand how distinct this one is until you watch the trailer, and even then, I would guess you still have some questions. Between The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s a big month for Zendaya. If you’re interested in seeing her and Robert Pattinson in something a little more… intimate, The Drama is one of the bigger streaming premieres coming to HBO Max this month. Critic Siddhant Adlakha called The Drama “one of the most delightfully nerve-wracking rabbit holes you’re likely to tumble down this year” in his 9/10 review. If you enjoy it and want more deeply uncomfortable vibes, I’d recommend another A24 movie coming to the service, The Killing of a Sacred Deer. *This list may not be comprehensive and is subject to change. Click through the links to check out IGN's original reviews. It’s official: The Justice Department has approved Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. What does that mean for HBO Max? We’re not entirely sure yet. Paramount execs have floated the idea of merging Paramount+ and HBO Max into a single mega-service, but they’ve also suggested the plan is to ‘let HBO operate with independence.’ We’ll likely hear something sooner rather than later - the $110 billion deal is expected to close before the end of this year. In the meantime, HBO Max plans start at $10.99/month with ads, going up to $27.99/month for plans that support streaming in 4K UHD. The service is also currently offering a deal that knocks over 40% off the price of annual plans.
