It's just you and your van in this upcoming open-world scavenging game

Deep down, I know I want to abandon it all and live the life of a nomad. If I didn't have a family and friends to worry about, I'd pack some clothes into a van and drive off, moving from town to town and camping out in the woods. Unfortunately, I have responsibilities and no driver's license, so I can't head off just yet. I can, however, live out the fantasy in Hodka, a new game revealed at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct.

Hodka is an upcoming game from developer Flazm. In the reveal trailer, we see a dilapidated van cresting a hill next to some stone ruins. The scene is set: this is about you and your trusty home-on-wheels venturing through what remains of this troubled world.

You'll have to scavenge for parts used to upgrade your van using a metal detector. There's some inventory management on display in the trailer, so it seems like those of us with hoarder tendencies will need to learn what loot is actually valuable.

Although the world of Hodka looks a bit past its best, you won't be alone in it. There are locals to meet along your travels who you'll need to help if you want to pass through the areas under their control. It won't all be scenic hills and moody vistas, you'll need to get around washed-out bridges and through collapsed tunnels.

If you're worried it all sounds a bit directionless, fear not; you're actually on the trail of your uncle. As you progress, you'll be collecting pieces of a puzzle, trying to figure out where he went. You'll have to keep your wits about you, though, because when night rolls in so does a dark fog hiding who knows what?
