Marvel Unlimited Shutting Down, Will Be Replaced by 'Marvel Comics Powered by Webtoon'
About
Overview
Marvel Unlimited, the company's subscription app for comics, will be shuttering on December 17, 2026, after about 19 years of service. Marvel annonced that new subscriptions for Unlimited would be ending today, and will be replaced by a new comics app, Marvel Comics Powered by Webtoon, on November 16, 2026. The service won't be taken fully offline until December, and existing subscribers will have free access to the app until it shuts down. If you were charged recently, that'll be the last time you're charged until the app shuts down. Marvel will also be sending users a prorated refund on November 16 for any remaining value on their subscription. There is some overlap between Marvel Unlimited shuttering and the new app going online, and in that window, you'll be able to migrate your library over to the new Marvel Comics app, along with your reading progress. The mechanics of that transfer aren't clear, but in the email Marvel sent to subscribers it says, "Stay tuned to your inbox and in-app messages for more details on how to migrate your library by signing up with Webtoon." For its part, the new Webtoon app seems like it may be an improvement over Marvel Unlimited, as long as you're willing to pay for a higher tier. The Ultimate tier will get access to new issues as soon as 30 days after they go to print, which is a huge improvement over the 3 months that the standard tier will have and that Unlimited had during its entire existence. Ahead of the Webtoon app's release, it does look like the UI is a bit more modern, but that's just based on some initial screenshots. I've always had a problem with the way comics worked both on a smartphone and on a web browser in Unlimited, so if the Webtoon app is able to solve that, the migration will be worth it for me. Luckily, the prices are mostly staying the same, too. I was paying $9.99 a month for Marvel Unlimited, and that's the same price that Webtoon's Base subscription will cost. That'll get you access to the full library and new issues 90 days after print. Or, you can get the Ultimate tier for $12.49 a month, which has the same library as the Base tier, just with new issues being added 30 days after print. You can preorder the a year of the Ultimate tier for $59.99, which works out to $4.99 for the first year. That's much cheaper than the Base tier, but it will renew at $99.99 after the first year.
