Netflix Reportedly Delays The Witcher Season 5 to 2027

Geralt's return to Netflix seems to have been pushed back, as a new report has stated that The Witcher Season 5 has been delayed until 2027.

Information on the schedule change comes from What's on Netflix, which reported that the show's fifth and final season may no longer make its previously expected 2026 release window after some fans noticed it had been scrubbed from the calendar for the year. When the streamer plans to drop The Witcher Season 5 within 2027 remains unclear.

Those who have kept up with production for the Netflix series may find the delay news especially surprising. As mentioned by fantasy fan site Redanian Intelligence, filming took place in 2025 and was believed to have wrapped up in September of that same year. That means not only more than a full year of post-production, but a significant wait after The Witcher last left viewers with the premiere of Season 4 in October.

Netflix's The Witcher has a troublesome past. With an army of supporters spread across books, games, and more, the show has received pushback from fans from the moment it was announced that Henry Cavill would play Geralt back in 2018. Then, after two seasons helped viewers fall in love with the former Superman actor's portrayal of The White Wolf, he announced he would be leaving the show entirely, with Season 3 being his last.

It was a dramatic exit that saw fellow Witcher fan Liam Hemsworth putting on the white wig starting with Season 4. After the years had brought a lead change and reports of writers mocking the source material, it seems the damage had already been done.

The Witcher Season 4 failed to impress most critics and general audiences alike, with review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reporting a 59% score for the former and a painfully low 19% score for the latter. Viewership for the fourth season also seems to have struggled, with its first week on Netflix bringing in disappointing numbers. IGN still found some things to love, giving it a 7/10 review.

Last year's season of the show also introduced a recast Vesemir with Peter Mullan, who took over for Kim Bodnia. For now, Netflix has not announced a The Witcher Season 5 release date, nor has it explained why it may have been delayed.
