Paper co-op deckbuilder Hellcard 2 has a new demo that you can play right now

Hellcard 2, a sequel to the original Hellcard which received 'Very Positive' reviews on Steam, is getting a new co-op demo that you can dive into right now. I'd encourage you to watch the rest of the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct first, but you could always download the demo while the show goes on.

Hellcard 2 is a co-op roguelite deckbuilder where you descend into dungeons and fight your way through evil minions and dragons made of paper. The paper models give the game an interesting look that makes the deckbuilding aspect feel more tactile and real—the new trailer we just debuted even starts with a scene that looks like a popup book opening.

You can play Hellcard 2 by yourself or with friends online. If you go solo, don't worry, you'll just control multiple characters simultaneously, so you won't be outgunned by the dragons in the dungeon. If you play with other people, you'll have to coordinate to make sure you're properly utilising all your cards.

One of the more unique mechanics within the genre is that monster placement actually matters. They can either be within melee or ranged distance, so you'll have to decide which cards are best for which threats. Will you go for an all melee deck and let enemies come to you, take them out from afar with a ranged build, or make a mix of the two so you can be ready for any and all situations?

For returning fans of the first Hellcard, what's new in this sequel is the inclusion of gear that your hero can wear. This will not only change their appearance, but also modify your deck and the stats and buffs you get. Let's be real, though, we're all going to pick what looks fashionable over what actually works the best.
