What Does the Spider-Man: Brand New Day Post-Credits Scene Mean for Peter Parker?

There’s only one small tease after the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it holds important clues about where Peter Parker ends up next. It might be the simplest and least expensive post-credits scene Marvel Studios has produced — in fact, it doesn’t feature any human actors, except the voice of Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) — but a closer look reveals what might transpire when we next meet our friendly, neighborhood Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland. As the concluding text reveals, “Spider-Man Will Return,” though it specifies neither when this will finally happen, nor where on Earth he’ll even be — that is, if he’s still on Earth at all.

During the movie, a memory-wiped Ned is revealed to be searching high and low for Spider-Man, if only to thank him for the numerous times the hero saved him and his pals in the previous films (Ned still remembers Spidey, but not the man beneath the mask). Whether this is the logical outcome of Ned being Ned, or some residual memory resurfacing — the movie’s closing reunion between Peter and Ned hints at the latter — it also introduces a fun little device that recurs throughout the film. Ned, now a student at MIT (and eventually a graduate), develops a nifty Spider-Tracker, a delightful, pixelated app through which people can submit Spidey sightings. The program ends up being used by everyone from the Punisher/Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) in the film, to Argentine soccer legend Lionel Messi in the marketing (“Ooooooaaaaaa!”).

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Post-Credits Scene Explained

The tracker is also the focus of the film’s post-credits tag, which consists entirely of a vertical screen recording of an unusual report. At first, the app’s 8-bit map is zoomed into New York City — presumably on Peter’s apartment — where a red pin with spider emblem marks his location. It’s probably not a literal view of someone’s app or how it works in the film, or else we’d see more than one submission, but we might also assume that Ned and Peter could’ve tinkered with it to make it a more personal tracker, now that they’re friends again. Ned was Peter’s “guy in the chair,” after all (i.e. his Oracle/tech support), so knowing where Spider-Man is at a given time would probably come in handy. However, what happens next is intentionally bizarre.

As the app continues to beep, Ned’s recorded voice announces a “new Spider-Man sighting, location unknown.” From there, the map zooms out quickly, so far that the entire Earth comes into view (still pixel animated, now with the moon visible nearby). As the image pans over to outer space, a couple of glitches flash across the screen, before another identical red pin appears in the infinite nothingness of the cosmos, as Ned’s voice announces: “Location found.”

In the wise words of Aunt May: “What the f*ck?” Well, we probably aren’t supposed to know exactly what all this adds up to, at least not yet. But given everything going on in the MCU and in Marvel Comics of late, there are some distinct possibilities.

One might assume this means Spidey’s next solo adventure will see him suddenly off in space. There’s certainly precedent for this, including in the recent comics. A few years ago, Spidey became an astronaut as part of a rebooted Fantastic Four team called the Future Foundation, which may not be out of the question. However, back in October 2025, the mainline Amazing Spider-Man book split its story between Earth and the far reaches of the galaxy, with Spidey somehow appearing in both spots. Were this to happen on screen, what might the Spidey tracker’s reports look like?

In that recent story, the Spider-Man on Earth was revealed to be Harry Osborn — which is unlikely to be the case, since he doesn’t exist in the MCU — while the one in space hanging out with symbiotes and Rocket Racoon (and wearing an electric new suit) turns out to be Peter, who eventually returns to Earth. That’s one possibility for the next Spider-Man movie if Sony decides to go big, or go home. But given where the films at large have been headed, the more likely result is multiverse shenanigans.

Spider-Man has been visiting space in the comics for decades (usually as part of crossover events with “Secret” or “Infinity” in the title). The next film on Marvel’s slate is Avengers: Doomsday this December, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars next year. Both stories are set to build on several years of talk about “Incursions” across the movies, i.e. different parallel dimensions coming into collision, destroying one or both. We’ve seen what this looks like in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and given the arrival of previous Spider-Men and their villains in the main universe (in Spider-Man: No Way Home), the walls between the MCU’s reality and several others might already have some cracks.

The plot of Doomsday seems to follow at least three different universes coming into contact — those belonging to the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and Fox’s X-Men — and while no Spider-Man actors have yet been confirmed to appear, it’s hard to imagine at least one of them won’t show up in some fashion, in one movie or the other (whether Holland, Andrew Garfield, or Tobey Maguire).

Where does that leave the tracker app and its apparent glitch? Well, the map may show Spider-Man in the middle of nowhere in outer space, but who’s to say this unmapped portion of our solar system won’t be occupied by another Earth coming into close contact with our own? Also, does this mean the pin on the Spidey tracker is following Holland’s Peter, as he makes his way to another reality? Or could it refer to a potential sighting of another Spider-Man entirely?

Whatever the case may be, it’s unlikely that the tracker app will play a major part in telling us who’s fighting where in Doomsday (it’s just a fun but of worldbuilding in Brand New Day, after all). But the mysterious nature of this post-credits scene means the folks at Marvel Studios want us to consider these possibilities. For better or worse, whatever threat next comes for Peter, it likely won’t be contained to the streets of New York. And if it’s powerful enough to make a GPS device glitch out and go where it shouldn’t, then it’s probably a danger to more than just Spider-Man alone. Either way, we’ll probably have an answer come December — whether in 2026, or 2027.
