Will Scarlet Witch Appear in Vision Quest? Paul Bettany Says It's a 'Matter of Secrecy,' and Fans Are Now Hoping For Her Return
About
Overview
Paul Bettany has claimed he still doesn't know if Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch will return in VisionQuest. The promising-looking Disney+ show is set to conclude the trilogy of series that began with WandaVision, and fan hopes are high that some kind of cameo from Wanda Maximoff will take place. Audiences last saw Wanda during the finale of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as she brought down Mount Wundagore and was seemingly buried underneath a mountain of stone. But... we didn't see a body, and all comic book fans should know what that means! Asked whether his on-screen partner would finally return in VisionQuest, Bettany told Entertainment Today that the answer to this was a secret that even he didn't know the answer to, sparking fan speculation that an appearance by Olsen may have been filmed. "That is, at this point, a matter of secrecy," Bettany claimed. "And it's secret even to me. There are also other surprises to come, and other big reveals. It's very exciting, I think, the story is really compelling and interesting." While VisionQuest is not directly about Wanda, fans still want to see Scarlet Witch return in some form. An appearance would help round out the WandaVision trilogy that began by focusing on her relationship with the re-animated synthezoid and continued by revealing that the couple's imaginary kids were now real. (It's complicated.) Agatha All Along featured Heartstopper star Joe Locke as Billy Maximoff, while VisionQuest is set to introduce Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff. Surely Marvel is building to a full family reunion, with Wanda included? More pressing, though, is the expectation that Wanda will join the vast group of fan-favorite Marvel characters to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and next year's Avengers: Secret Wars. Could a cameo for VisionQuest have been filmed recently? Avengers: Doomsday reshoots did recently take place — so perhaps Bettany really doesn't know yet if something has been added in post-production. Or, of course, he absolutely does know if Wanda is in the show (or not) and is simply keeping the truth hidden. "I suspect the post credit scene will be Wanda alive and working for Doom," one fan speculated. "I think it’ll be from the recent Doomsday reshoots we know Elizabeth Olsen attended." (This references recent, unverified internet speculation prompted by a potential sighting of Olsen flying into the U.K. around the time Doomsday reshoots took place.) "Especially since this show has repeatedly been referred to as the third in the Wanda-Vision family trilogy," a second fan replied. "If this is the end of a trilogy that began with her alone and manifesting a family which is then broken, scattered and reborn, it makes narrative sense for them to come together again at the close." "Rule #1 no body, no death," said a third. VisionQuest begins streaming on October 18 via Disney+, so there's not long until we find out.
