Overview

Believe it or not, author George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is now 30 years old. Actually, those fans who have been waiting all this time for The Winds of Winter probably can believe it. And while that new book is still a ways away from getting a release date, there is one silver lining. The Folio Society is releasing a new limited edition version of A Game of Thrones that will appeal to fans with pockets as deep as a Lannister's.

IGN can exclusively debut a new look at The Folio Society's A Game of Thrones: 30th Anniversary Edition. Get a closer look in the slideshow gallery below:

We won't bury the lede here - this edition doesn't come cheap. The 30th Anniversary Edition hardcover set is priced at an eye-watering £1,500 or $2,200. For that price, you get a book handmade by the folks at Ludlow Bookbinders and signed by Martin himself. The book is bound in "dragon leather," has a limitation page blocked in real gold, and comes inside a clamshell box with a rolled cloth map of Westeros.

This edition features an introduction by Joe Abercrombie and all the original illustrations by artist Jonathan Burton. It's limited to just 1000 copies worldwide.

Details

“This volume is so stunning it could have been taken directly from the Citadel library itself,” said Folio Society Editor James Rose in a statement. “We have been incredibly fortunate to work with the finest British craftspeople on this special 30th anniversary version: from the leather makers who created our incredible dragonskin leather, to the James Cropper paper mill who made our bespoke endpapers, to Ludlow Bookbinders who are binding each volume with care. With a limitation page blocked in real gold, a rolled map and a stunning box — and each copy personally signed by George R. R. Martin himself — this is truly a limited edition worthy of the Iron Throne that absolutely every fan of the series needs in their library.”

This edition of A Game of Thrones is live now on The Folio Society website. If this version is too rich for your blood, there's also a standard edition priced at $235.

When last we heard about the status of The Winds of Winter, publisher Bantam Books denied rumors that the book is seeing release in 2026. However, Martin is still adamant that he'll finish the book, though fans shouldn't expect another writer to take over if he dies.

While everyone continues to wait, you can catch up on everything we know about the next Game of Thrones book. You can also learn more about how to read every book in the series in order.
